Chernobyl Disaster
On April 26, 1986 the city of Chernobyl in Russia, a city of about 12,500 inhabitants, suffered a major disaster when a nuclear reactor exploded releasing several tons of radiation into that area. The city was completely evacuated but many of it’s former inhabitants, especially the children continue to suffer from this epidemic often dubbed as one of the most catastrophic accidents of our time. If you click on the picture above it will take you to a website that will play a slide show with photographs of the victims.
The irony of the whole thing is that even though the area sustained a massive amount of radiation and toxic chemicals it has completely rebounded since the absence of people. Nature has come and reclaimed the area and animals there are experiencing a population boom. Go figure…

Chernobyl is in Ukraine, not Russia. In 1986 it was part of the Soviet Union, which is still not Russia.
that is sad
this is the most disgusting sad thing i have ever seen
Though plant life has experienced massive growth, when meassured, the grown plants exhibit a large amount of radiation. The radiation, however, is not transfered to the seeds. It’s interesting.
This boy appears to have Proteus Syndrome. It is genetic and likely not from radiation exposure.
i guess you would tell me my spina bifida could nt possibly have came from radiation even though pregnant women in arkansas in the 1950s received radiation in an experiment that would ve been my grandmother and despite the government s programs to ensure all mothers receive folic acid like recommended spina bifida is still a problem here im proof of that and so are the commercials about medication they now say is causing it were being mislead
Crb- Spina bifida is one of the most common birth defects. Also those commercials are CRAP, its just lawyers trying to get money over law suites that shouldn’t exist because the person probably would have spina bifida even if the mother hadn’t taken the meds.
THE ONLY way I could even consider you having spina bifida to come from the radiation your grandmother received is if you had a rarer type, THEN it would be plausible. Otherwise there is a very very very high chance that the radiation is not the cause and your spinal cord just did not close up.
It was in Ukraine, not Russia. Once I saw that mistake, this article became became irrelevant to any Chernobyl facts I was looking for.
This is all we can hope to achieve by inhabiting the planet. There’s no chance of turning back and helping the planet and ourselves, it’s too late for that.
